Lavoisier a liar? Lab
1. Purpose: The purpose of the lab is to find out if matter is created or destroyed during a reaction.
2.Data: Mass of empty beaker A:28.7176g
Mass of compound placed in beaker A: .7583g
Mass of empty beaker B: 28.43333g
Mass of compound placed in beaker B:1.2139g
Total mass of compounds placed in beaker A and B: .7583+1.2139 = 1.9722g
Mass of clean filter paper: .8564g
Mass of beaker A and filter with compound: 30.3385g
Mass of compound recovered in beaker A: .7645g
Mass of beaker B + Compound: 29.5428g
Mass of recovered compound in beaker B 1.1096g
Total mass of both A and B compounds: .7645+1.1096 = 1.8741g
Total mass of compounds before the reaction: 1.9722g
Total mass of compounds after the reaction: 1.8741g
3:Conclusion: The lab shows that mass is conserved during a reaction. The mass before and after the reaction is very close and could have easily been changed due to errors made during the lab. Although the compounds were changed during the reaction, mass wasn't created or destroyed.

The suspect they should bring in for questioning is Penelope because when you plug in the smallest shoe size to the equation given by the best fit line, the height equals about 61.8 inches, and Penelope is the closest to that height.
